Simon is a highly experienced teacher of both children and adults, and of all levels from beginners to diploma and beyond on both flute and piano, teaching both privately and in schools. He has a private teaching studio in Bournemouth. While face to face teaching is not possible due to covid-19, he is able to offer online lessons.
Among his previous pupils, a number have gone on to study music as undergraduates, including students going to the Guildhall School of Music, Royal College of Music and various universities. His students have achieved numerous competition successes, including two reaching the national final in the Rotary Club Young Musician of the Year competition. His students have regularly gone to grade 8, with many achieving distinctions.

Since 2009, Simon has taught classical improvisation at undergraduate and postgraduate level at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has also led workshops in classical improvisation at various locations including Trinity Laban College and for Aldeburgh Young Musicians.
Simon is an experienced ensemble coach, having run flute ensembles and been an orchestral sectional tutor. During his time as Artistic Director of Bishop’s Stortford Sinfonia, he conducted the annual Youth Orchestra Summer School.
Simon has given masterclasses, and is also an experienced adjudicator for both piano and woodwind. As an accomplished piano accompanist, Simon is able to accompany all of his flute students in lessons, exams and other performances, and his comprehensive knowledge of the repertoire means he is able to accompany the most advanced repertoire for diploma and beyond.
